Sharp is widely considered to have been the "Spiritual Father" of the Tacos Society of Artists. His work is often referred to as poetic, he felt that his paintings were for the vanishing culture of the American Indian and the Old West.

Hassan was known as a influential and prolific artist. He gained so much notarity in 1898 when he helped found the Ten American Painters. After his death in 1935, he was honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Rosetsu was a student of Maruyama, Okyo. Both artists incorporated a western type theme in their paintings. Rosetsu was born into a small ranking Samurai family of the Yodo clan in Japan.
